MS Specialized Master's ® New Diplomatic Practices offered by ICES in partnership with the Global European Diplomatic Academy – University of Europe for Applied Sciences, equips students with the skills to navigate modern diplomacy across public, private, and transnational organizations.

FULL-TIME 14 months, including 4 months of professional assignment with opportunities in Paris, Berin, and Dubai (subject to availability and institutional arrangements). PART-TIME 2-3 years.

In a context where states no longer have a monopoly on diplomacy, the MS Specialized Master’s® New Diplomatic Practices of ICES (bac+6) trains students in a professional approach to all new forms of diplomacy, in the public and private sectors, within NGOs, companies, associations or communities that participate in international relations.

This specialized master’s program (MS) which will be offered in partenership between ICES and Global European Diplomatic Academy – University of Europe for Applied Sciences provides the knowledge and skills necessary for practicing new diplomatic practices (NDP). in a world where states no longer possess a monopoly over diplomacy, the MS New Diplomatic Practices equips students with the analytical, strategic, and operational competencies required to navigate modern forms of diplomacy across the public and private sectors, as well as within non-governmental organisations (NGOs), corporations, associations, and transnational communities that actively shape International Relations.

In order to accommodate the flexibility needs of active professionals and offer students the highest quality study-experience, the MS Degree will be delivered in hybrid format consisting in a blend of face-to-face teaching, synchronous as well as asynchronous online lectures. Teaching methods include : lectures, seminars, case studies, simulation exercises and tutorials.

Many of the diplomacy alumni occupy senior positions in their home countries as Ministers and Ambassadors. Others are working as members of staff for international and regional organisations such as the UN, NATO, the EU, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the League of Arab States, the media, multinational corporations, as well as for defence and security organisations and as members of parliaments in their own countries. A number of the diplomacy graduates have pursued academic careers as lecturers and researchers at various universities around the globe.

In a rapidly changing international environment there is an increasing demand for graduates and professionals chow have the relevant knowledge and appropriate skills in the areas of diplomacy, the media and international security. Since its inception the Diplomatic Studies course has attracted members of the London, Paris and Rome diplomatic corps, staff of overseas ministries for foreign affairs, international and regional organisations, on-governmental organisations and multinational corporations, as well as graduates who wishto pursue a diplomatic career in the future, or work for other government departments or multinational corporations.

Programme

short courses & training programs MS Specialized Master’s ® New Diplomatic Practices of ICES 

ICES Paris will also organise short courses and executive programmes and a variety of bespoke courses, sponsored by governments, international and regional organisation. Over the last forty years, our staff have been involved in the training of groups sponsored by the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, The British Council, the Commonwealth, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, United Arab Emirates, Poland, Romania, Tunisia, Tanzania, and Chinese Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the People’s Liberation Army, the Central Communist Party, Beijing Security Police, and groups of officials from many Chinese provinces including the National Development and Reform Commission and Foreign Affairs Office of Qinghai Province, People’s Republic of China.

Duration

FULL-TIME 14 months, including 4 months of professional assignment with opportunities in Paris, Berin, and Dubai (subject to availability and institutional arrangements). PART-TIME 2-3 years.

OPTIONAL Internship(s)

The professional placement lasts four months (between March and August). It takes place after the academic training (from September to February). The objective of this placement is to allow trainees to put the knowledge acquired during their training into practice and to confront it with situations they will encounter in their professional environment. Subject to availability and institutional arrangements, optional opportunities may be facilitated in Paris, Berlin, or Dubai.

Exemption from study

You may be exempted from part of the study programme if you have attended another course, or if you have relevant personal experience. The maximum possible exemption under the Accredited

Prior Learning (APL) or Accredited Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) procedures Is modules equivalent to (25 credits).

Admission

Prerequisites MS Specialized Master’s ® New Diplomatic Practices of ICES

The MS is primarily open to holders of a Master 2 degree Normally, you must have either : a first degree from a recognised university or, a postgraduate degree, or professional qualification in a relevant discipline, such as politics, economics, law or languages, or knowledge ans skills at a university degree standard, normally through fixe years’ relevant work experience. If your first language is not in English, you will need an IELTS score of 6 or equivalent. The University offers pre-sessional summer programmes if you need to improve your English before starting your course. You may be required to attend an interview and pass a language test.
